Impact of Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration on Manganese Oxide and Platinum Catalyst Bed Performance

This study investigates the use of MnxOy/Al2O3 and Pt/Al2O3 catalysts for decomposition hydrogen peroxide in thrusters. It describes purpose, procedures, performance, conclusions coming from test campaign catalyst lifetimes. In particular, eight different propellant samples with two were tested twice (in order to exclude uncertainty). Similar operating starting conditions applied. All hot tests performed a thruster-like bed configuration injector outlet nozzle. Each was filled same mass (for type catalyst). The results show that platinum is more effective than manganese oxides peroxide. findings have important implications development “green” propellants.
